weekly catch-up #4

2021 edit: i no longer subscribe to or support the “all-natural” label.

happy monday, crunchies!

this weekend was full of great memories with family and friends. i can’t wait for more this upcoming holiday weekend!

how was yours??

ready for our 4th catch-up? 🙂

BADGER BALM PRODUCTS. this is one great company with great products only made with natural ingredients. for this purchase, i got tinted sunscreen, cheerful mind balm, highland mint lip balm, and the blue tansy & lavender after sun balm (graciously thrown in as a gift with my 3 purchased products).  i’m in love with all 4 products! the tinted sunscreen is completely non-toxic and non-nano, and the tint helps give less of a white cast that natural sunscreens have. i’m keeping the cheerful mind balm at work so i can use it throughout the day. it smells so good; a very fresh yet light combo of sweet orange and mint, with a hint of rosemary. the highland mint lip balm rivals my favorite peppermint chapstick from dr bronner’s.. it’s very silky and moisturizing. and lastly, the blue tansy & lavender balm can really be used all over your body for some intensive moisture and skin repair. i’ve been absolutely looooving it as an under-eye balm. if you’d like an in-depth review, lemme know! what badger products do you love and/or not like?

NEW BEESWAX CANDLES. i knew i was already a Blue Corn Naturals supporter, but an AE reader, Kristen, suggested Beehive Candles after i uploaded the Q&A video. within a few days i’d placed and order and got the ones below in the mail – lavender and ‘sensuality’…oooohhh. the candles in general have very soft scents when lit. the lavender smells like lavender of course, which i enjoy, but i have to be honest and say i wasn’t crazy about the scent ‘sensuality.’ it’s supposed to be a  mix of floral notes, but all you can really smell is patchouli. to each their own, but i’d like to try another scent. maybe the  citrus one next time! but overall, these candles are great and really help with my cat allergies (yes, i do have 2, but ii don’t take any sort of medication). if you’re in the market for 100% pure beeswax candles, you should definitely take Kristen’s advice and look at this company!

AYURVEDA. recently i’ve been soaking up as much information as i can about ayurvedic beauty techniques. i started with the book “Absolute Beauty,” which i purchased on amazon. the techniques and routines are so interesting! has anyone looked into this? i’ve learned my dominant dosha is pitta. i’d love to hear tips from other pittas (and anyone into ayurveda, really)! the only thing that bothers me so far is that so much of the foods i naturally lean towards on the “avoid” list for my dosha. no garlic, cayenne, or hard cheeses? i’m going to shrivel up! we’ll see what adjusting my diet does for a few weeks (within reason of course).

BEAUTY BLENDERS. i’m trying to master these things to see if it helps with the application and finish of natural foundations. any tips would be greatly appreciated! maybe now i’ll even buy an actual eyeliner brush instead of using a concealer brush to do the job 😉

NEW LAYOUT. AE has a new layout, so please leave your feedback! and yes, the index is coming back soon. it’s under construction, as it wasn’t updated for months. eek! i’ll try to get it back up asap! apologies, crunchies!

what’s up with YOU this past week/weekend? i want to hear all about it!

  1. I stumbled across a book called “Balance Your Hormones, Balance Your Life,” by Claudia Welch which contains comparisons of approaches between western and eastern medicines. It focuses on the Ayurveda perspective and that one can balance their hormones if they get in a healthy routine and maintain it (sounds so simple 😛 ) But the author relates the information in a realistic, as well as an easy-to-understand way. I had never heard of Ayurveda before picking this book up but I found it while searching ways to understand hormones better. It includes recipes, take-away messages at the end of each chapter, and overall just really great advice. It’s more focused on different health concerns rather than the beauty aspect, but I would definitely recommend it! Just an fyi 🙂

  2. I like the new look myself. 🙂 I do have a quick question that isn’t really related to this post, so hopefully that’s ok. I’m just wondering if Earth’s Daughter Aloe Vera Gel is good to use on my hair and skin. Is the brand ok? It doesn’t say I have to refrigerate it so that’s why I’m wondering.

  3. I don’t mind the new layout. Unless you don’t bring the index back. Then I’ll mind the new layout. One though, perhaps a search function would be good/useful

    1. Thanks Allisa 🙂 it’s definitely coming back! And there’s a search box in the top right. Maybe I should make it more pronouced. Thanks for the feedback! Xo

  4. Beauty blenders are great! Run it under water to dampen it then squeeze all the water out. Wrap in a dry paper towel or cloth and squeeze again (you want it just barely damp). Works great to put a dot of foundation on your face then blend with patting motions.
