weekly catch-up #5

2021 edit: i no longer subscribe to or support the “all-natural” label.

happy monday, crunchies!

i finally had a weekend to relax! what about you?

this catch-up is short and sweet!

HONEYBEE GARDENS.

i’ve been in the market for a natural eyeliner pencil, but they are crazy expensive. has anyone else noticed that? the ingredients in them certainly don’t command the prices that are charged for most companies. my DIY is fine (jojoba oil, iron oxides, raw shea butter), but i’m looking for the convenience and sharpness of a pencil. i found some pencils through Honeybee Gardens (also sold at walgreen’s). as far as the entire cosmetic line goes, the products are hit and miss with their respective ingredients lists. have you ever tried this brand? what are your recommendations?

SHEA MOISTURE BOGO. if you’re looking for a low-poo or a more natural alternative conditioner, lotion, leave-in, or shine serum, walgreen’s has a BOGO on shea moisture products right now, with free shipping on order over $25! please note that the ingredients list on these products are hit and miss. you’ll have to check each product! it’s annoying, yes, but great if you have the chance to snag some BOGO items!

PRESSED POWDER BLUSH & BRONZER. my blush and bronzer are DIY, but lately the loose powder has been driving me up the wall (mostly because i’ve been clumsy haha). i’m working on a nourishing formula for each to share with you (completely customizable for shades) so you guys don’t have to pay an arm and a leg on purchaseable versions (if you don’t want to.) it’s been surprisingly tough to find a balance between a highly pigmented product and the perfect amount of moisture to keep it hard enough to stay compact, but loose enough to fluff under a brush. more to come soon!

LIPSTICK. if you have any all-natural lipstick recommendations, let’s hear ’em! i’m personally looking for a few new shades, and i know other crunchies could benefit from a lipstick talk, too! please leave your favorite brands and colors along with link s below!

HAIR STYLES FOR GREASY DAYS. i was thinking of making a video for different hair styles that can be done to help hide greasy roots, without the use of dry-shampoo. what do you think? i have my own personal go-to’s, but i’m not sure if they’d work for all lengths and hair types. if you have ideas, leave them below!

what’s up with YOU this past week/weekend? i want to hear all about it!

  1. Hi! I sorry this is the wrong post, but I remember your asking about candles not long ago and can’t find where it is! I know you found some you like, but a friend is having an ava anderson dem and I noticed that they have candles as well made with coconut wax and beeswax, so thought I’d leave a suggestion.

Have you ever tried anything ava anderson? If so, what do you think?

  2. Your diy eyeliner sounds amazing and just what I’m looking for, and I have all those ingredients on hand, but I dont see s post about it here. Could you tell us the ratios you use to make your eyeliner? Thanks!!

  3. Here’s a thought….what about a post on eyelash health? I’m curious what you do (if anything) to keep your eyelashes nice, strong and healthy. Are there any tips to make them longer? For me, I have pretty thin eyelashes, so I’m always worried when taking off my makeup that I’m going to cause some to fall out. That’s just an idea for a post, if you had enough to say on the subject.

I’m also really looking forward to a post on greasy hair day styles! That would be awesome!

    1. I’ve heard some women swear by lavender eo! A few drops into the mascara container, but they don’t “pump it” to mix it up.

  4. I spent a small fortune searching for two years for organic mascara that would not smudge, would not flake, and would not leave me with raccoon eyes at the end of the day, and Honeybee Gardens is the only one that worked for me at any price. I’ve been ordering it from Amazon and then their website–and lo and behold you tell us you can get it at Walgreens?!?! Whodda thunk?? This is the best tip I’ve had from your website, and that’s saying a lot because your site has helped me in so many ways since going completely organic in all things. Thanks!!! Now I’ve got to run to Walgreens…

Oh, but before I go, I’ve been using all Vapour cosmetics, including their eyeliners & lipsticks & lipglosses, and I’ve been extremely happy with this line, does everything I want my cosmetics to do without looking like I’ve put a mask on my face, and every product lasts a very, very long time. You can order sample sizes that they say are good for one application, but they last me at least a week, plus I keep filling the little sample-cases to carry in my little cosmetic bag. They don’t have mascara, yet, but I hear they are coming out with some this year. They also don’t have a face powder, which I use every once in a while, so I have & am extremely happy with RMS Un-powder. I’m going to try the Honeybee Gardens eyeliner, though–now, off to Walgreens!

  5. So you weren’t a fan of the Honeybee Gardens eye liner? Or did you not try them and when you were say “hit and miss” you were talking about just the cleanness of the ingredients in different products?

  6. I would love to see a post on hairstyles for dirty hair as well! Sounds fun 🙂
Also I buy a few key makeup/body products from Real Purity (www.realpurity.com). They have some great stuff, most of it chemical free (although not all, so read the ingredients). But they have great lipstick choices and the BEST natural roll-on deodorant I have ever tried. Also, they send out small samples of any product on the website you want. It’s a great way to try different lipstick shades without committing!

  7. I’m interested in trying the Shea Moisture line, but I find the list of un-pronouncable ingredients totally foreign to me! I know a few to watch out for, but there are so many. Which Shea moisture shampoo do you like the best/has the safest ingredients? Thanks so much!

  8. I would LOVE something on hairstyles for dirty hair. I’m trying (seemingly without success) to stretch my washes out. I’m trying to go longer before resorting to dry shampoo too, so any ideas you have would be fantastic!!

    1. I have long & thin-ish hair and would absolutely love to see a few hair styles! I have a couple that I currently use, but they only work if I don’t touch them at all (no scritching/preening/BBB). My hair is also very dry after some treatments I was receiving and am really trying to stretch out my washes as well so that my hair can get back to a naturally conditioned state!

      Thank you!
