red wine face masks

yes, you read the title correctly. it’s happy hour for your face!

organic red wine is chock full of great things for your skin, like antioxidants, amino acids, alpha hydroxy acids, and polyphenols, as well as boasting antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties.

these properties make organic red wine a great addition to any face mask to help with blemishes, fine lines, uneven tone, excess oil production, skin renewal, and a nice glow.

but why organic?

by using organic red wine, you’re  not putting pesticides or sulfites on your face (at least in the US – european and canadian organic wines can contain sulfites). keep in mind that even in the US, labels that say “made with organically grown grapes” may still contain sulfites.

thankfully, i’ve noticed more and more stores carrying organic wine options – some even with its own section for them!

so go ahead, buy an extra bottle of wine (or case)… it’s for your face… right?

(organic red wine mask made with raw honey & rose clay)

here are some of my favorite combinations for red wine masks. of course you can use it on its own! to do this, apply to clean skin with a  cotton ball. you may want to let that layer dry and apply another. rinse off with warm water. done!

step 1 – pour yourself a glass of wine.
step 2 – mix up a mask and apply.
step 3 – relax.

  1. mix up ingredients
  2. slather on your clean face
  3. let sit for 15-20 minutes
  4. rinse off gently off with cool to warm water

  • 1 teaspoon raw honey (~1/3 tbs)
  • 1 capsule or 1 of spirulina
  • 1 tablespoon organic red wine

  • 1 tablespoon rose clay (i have this one). you can substitute with plain kaolin clay
  • 3 tablespoons organic red wine

  • 2 tablespoons organic red wine
  • 3/4 tablespoon cacao powder

  • 1/2 tablespoon full-fat plain kefir
  • 1 tablespoon organic red wine
  • 1/2 tablespoon raw honey

(watery – apply with a cotton ball)

  • 1 tablespoon organic red wine
  • 1 tablespoon strongly steeped and cooled organic green tea

  • 2 tablespoons organic red wine
  • 1/2 tablespoon raw honey
  • 3/4 tablespoon rose clay

enjoy the wine face masks!

  1. Just split a bottle with two friends and we did the chocolate mask and the kaolin clay mask! I added a little more cocoa powder to each (we didn’t actually have cacao powder) to thicken them. They were great!! Rinsed off just fine (no staining), and my skin feels AMAZING. We decided to make this a bi-monthly girls’ night 🙂
