multi-tasking herbal hair rinse

hair rinses are definitely something i wish i could do more often. in the world of diy green beauty, they’re the relatively easy things to make and use, and yield some great benefits.

when i do get the time to use one, i want to make sure they work hard.

here’s one of my favorite hair rinses so far. please share yours!

this multi-tasking hair rinse strengthens follicles, promotes hair growth, adds shine, evens pH, and clarifies the scalp.

what you need –

things:

  • medium saucepan
  • measuring cup
  • spoon
  • large bowl (think oversized popcorn bowl)
  • strainer
  • squirt bottle and/or spray bottle
  • darker towel
  • a shirt that’s not your favorite

ingredients:

  • 4 cups water
  • 1/4 cup rosemary needles
  • 1/4 cup peppermint leaves
  • 1 tsp basil
  • 1 tap sage
  • 1 tsp thyme
  • 1 tbs raw apple cider vinegar with the mother
  • 1 tbs raw honey (*rinse out after if you use this)

how to – 

in a medium saucepan, boil the water. once boiling, add herbs and boil for 5 minutes. turn to low. cover and let sit for another 15 minutes. turn heat off and let it cool to room temperature so you don’t burn yourself when you use it. once the mix is cooled, strain into your container of choice. add the raw honey and acv. shake well.

with your hair rinse ready, pour the mix directly onto your scalp generously, letting a large bowl catch all of the run-off. massage it into your scalp and let air dry. you could also dunk your whole head into the bowl for a faster, yet messier, approach.

there’s no need to rinse this out*, but you can do so after a half hour (+/overnight) if you want.

i’m a huge fan of hair and scalp rinses because they pack a nice punch of multipurpose ingredients in one mix. DIYing these rinses are super easy to make and tailor to your hair’s needs.

these hair and scalp rinses are, as indicated,  rosemary-based, serving to strengthen hair follicles, promote growth, treat dandruff, and soften hair,

you can add different ingredients to your base, such as peppermint EO/tea, sandalwood EO, rose water, raw honey, etc, to amp it up.
